West Acton Primary School has been designated a Microsoft Showcase School for the 2025–2026 academic year, joining a global network of institutions recognised for their innovative use of digital technology in education.

The recognition follows an 18-month development programme at the school, which focused on integrating digital tools into teaching, learning, and operational systems. Staff undertook extensive professional development, including five educators qualifying as Microsoft Innovative Educators and the Headteacher completing an apprenticeship in digital leadership. Regular in-person training sessions have supported the adoption of digital platforms across the curriculum.

Under its whole-school digital strategy, West Acton Primary has implemented policies that embed technology into classroom practice, with a particular focus on accessibility and equity. All Key Stage 2 pupils now have individual devices, while younger pupils in Key Stage 1 and Early Years share devices where appropriate. Pupils with special educational needs and those learning English as an additional language receive tailored support through tools such as Immersive Reader and Translator.

The school’s curriculum includes elements of AI literacy, online safety, and digital creativity. Pupils use technology to complete research tasks, produce multimedia projects, and engage in collaborative learning. Staff also use Microsoft 365 applications—including Teams and OneNote—for lesson planning, communication, and data tracking. This system enables real-time monitoring of academic progress, pastoral needs, and pupil engagement.

West Acton Primary’s digital infrastructure aligns with the Department for Education’s Digital and Technology Standards for Schools, covering cybersecurity, device management, and long-term resourcing. The school has also begun exploring the government’s guidance on generative AI in education, assessing its potential to support teaching and reduce workload.

The Showcase School designation reflects the school’s alignment with national priorities and its preparedness for inspection under the updated Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, which places increased emphasis on leadership, wellbeing, and digital readiness.

As part of the Microsoft Showcase programme, West Acton Primary will participate in international professional learning networks and host events to share its approach with other schools.

The school said, “It has been an exciting journey of growth and innovation, made possible through the support of the governing body, the commitment of the staff and above all, the pupils’ willingness to learn, enthusiasm for new ideas, and brilliance in embracing this transformation.”
