Downing's redevelopment of Holiday Inn Express will reach 31 storeys
May 29, 2025 Another student accommodation block is set to form part of the North Acton skyline with the approval of the proposal to redevelop the Holiday Inn Express site. The green light has been given by the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC) for the new 668-unit development on Victoria Road by North Acton tube station. The final scheme by Downing has seen a reduction from the original proposal of 35 storeys to 31 and will see two towers containing 609 student flats and 69 Build to Rent units. The second tower is 17 storeys high and will contain the residential portion of which 35% will be affordable. Commercial space designed for shops will be at the ground floor level. The two buildings would be linked by a four-storey podium. Designed by architects SimpsonHaugh, the development is the third by Downing in the area following The Lyra and Holbrook student accommodation developments. Martin Fenlon, Downing’s associate projects director, said, “North Acton is becoming a hotbed of regeneration. It’s a vibrant community, with unrivalled transport links and proximity to Imperial College, the University of West London and the University of the Arts.”
