TK Maxx Reveals Opening Date for Oaks Shopping Centre Store |

New shop will be ready before August Bank Holiday weekend
August 19, 2026 TK Maxx will officially open its new Acton store on Thursday 27 August at 10am, with the retailer now displaying the date prominently in its window and confirming the launch on its website. The hoardings around the former Wilko unit at The Oaks Shopping Centre have been removed, revealing staff working intensively inside the store to prepare for next week’s opening. The window display, visible from the main mall, confirms the departments that will be available when the store opens: Accessories, Home, Jewellery, Men, Shoes, Toys and Women. The interior fit-out appears to be in its final stages, with shelving, signage and stock now visible through the glass. Earlier this summer, TK Maxx branding replaced the plain white hoardings that had been installed in June, signalling that the retailer was preparing the site for launch. At the time, TK Maxx declined to comment and The Oaks’ management did not issue any announcement, despite the arrival of a major national retailer being a rare boost for a centre that has recently seen Wilko, Poundland and Starbucks depart.
The unit, empty since Wilko’s collapse in September 2023, is one of the largest retail spaces in Acton at around 16,000 square feet. Its size and location made it the most likely candidate for TK Maxx after Acton appeared on the company’s list of target areas for London expansion. The opening is expected to draw significant footfall and provide a lift for Acton’s retail landscape. The Oaks development has struggled with long-term vacancies since opening, and the closure of Poundland earlier this year added to concerns about the town centre’s mix of shops. A national retailer with strong customer traffic could help stabilise the area and attract further investment. TK Maxx, owned by US-based TJX Companies, operates an off-price retail model offering discounted branded clothing, homeware, beauty products and accessories. Its stores typically draw steady customer traffic thanks to frequently changing stock and a “treasure-hunt” shopping experience.
