The co-creator of Hancock’s Half Hour and Steptoe and Son, Alan Simpson, will be guest of honour and take part in a question and answer session at Acton Gardening Association’s Open Day on Bank Holiday Sunday between noon and 4pm.

The day is being held to raise funds for Gardening Leave, a charity set up to help soldiers suffering from trauma recover through gardening. Charity boss Anna Cresswell Baker will also speak.

There will be a plant sale, plus home made Thai, Italian and English food. Local beekeeper John Chapple will display bees in a glass observation hive and there willl also be a special chicken display and live music.

Free entry to the site on Bromyard Avenue, W3 opposite the King Fahad Academy.
