Bose-Pastor Duo marks the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel's birth
June 24, 2025 The current season of the Iris Axon Concert Series is concluding with a concert of piano four hands played by the Bose-Pastor Duo. The Duo (Pia Bose and Antonio Pastor) have played in Carnegie Hall and St Martins-in-the-Fields and were second prize winners in the 18th International Piano Duo competition held in Tokyo. The opportunity to hear piano four hands, where two players play the same piano simultaneously, is rare and organisers are promising an exciting event. The concert takes place at Acton Hill Church on Sunday 6 July at 4pm. The programme is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel's birth (1875): Ma mère l'Oye - Cinq pièces enfantines pour quatre mains - Ravel Rapsodie Espagnole– arr. Ravel Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune - Debussy arr. Ravel La Valse, poème chorégraphique pour orchestre- Ravel arr. Garban The 21st series of Iris Axon concerts begins on 7 September with pianist Lewis Kingsley Peart. Tickets are priced at £6 adults / £5 concessions / £2 children. Pay at the door. The Iris Axon Concert Series is an annual season of short (60-70 minute) monthly recitals on Sunday afternoons at the Acton Hill Church. The series was started by Music Director Jane Schopf in 2004 to provide a venue for young musicians starting on their professional careers, many of whom have subsequently enjoyed international success in competitions and on the concert platform. The series has continued to grow and now attracts established international artists as well. Originally called the Acton Classical Music Concert Series, it was re-named in 2009 in memory of one of its most loyal supporters, Iris Axon, who made possible the purchase of a concert grand, handmade by Clive Pinkham. The church is deemed ideal for concerts as it has the largest unsupported wooden barrel-vault ceiling in London which brings out the middle harmonics, creating a luxuriously warm sound. Concerts are usually held on the first Sunday of the month at 4pm. Programmes at the door. There are crèche facilities available. More information is available at classicalconcerts-acton.com.
