A Factory Quarter resident’s campaign for a new look for an ugly wall on Warple Way has ended in success.

John McNally led efforts to cover the concrete wall, topped with barbed wire, next to Thames Water’s Acton Pumping station.

Eventually the water company agreed to act and the project got the support of Notting Hill Genesis, the housing association which manages the development. It enlisted studiotwenty7, who work from one of the Factory Quarter commercial units, to create a design for the wall.

Mr McNally, said of his efforts coming to life, "Every time I walked past the grey concrete wall, I saw it as a blank canvas and had a vision of a colourful, vibrant mural to brighten the daily walk and cycle ride of hundreds of local residents.

Tallulah Coen-d'Arcy from studiotwenty7, said of their design, “Channelling the spirit of Hokusai’s Great Wave, Monica of studiotwenty7 has transformed Thames Water’s signature blues into a flowing, rhythmic pattern that rolls across the wall like a living current. It’s more than just a nod to water - it’s a celebration of its movement, its power, and the incredible community that helped bring this mural to life. We think it’s a stunning splash of creativity that’s completely transformed the vibe of Warple Way.”

“The design created by the studiotwenty7 team is amazing and we have received many positive comments."

James Glass, director of places for Notting Hill Genesis, added, “We are thrilled to support John’s vision and to see the community come together today. This project showcases the power of creativity and determination in shaping welcoming spaces our residents can take pride in.”
Thames Water, whose funding made this possible, also expressed their enthusiasm for supporting local projects.

Claire Iredale, community coordinator, said, “It has been wonderful to support the project on Warple Way and see John’s vision come to life. We hope residents and visitors alike will enjoy the work of local artists and inspire pride and creativity in their communities.”
