New 'high quality' food store promised in the mixed-use development
The new plans for The Oaks Shopping Centre are on display and you can and have your say before they are submitted to Ealing Council. They go on show this Friday (20th) and Saturday (21st) in the centre and members of the development team will be available for questioning - the plans are now online. The developers, the Acton Regeneration Company, say the revised plans - which take in the Council car-park on Churchfield Road - will improve the retail offer in Acton, creating 'an exciting shopping destination for the town centre'. The proposals (pdf) promise to bring employment and new retailers, including a new high quality food store. ARC say the mixed-use development will also provide 'high quality sustainable new homes, pleasant open spaces, safer parking and improved pedestrian access to the Oaks, and will contribute to the wider regeneration of Acton Town Centre'. John Bourne from Acton Regeneration Company commented: “The inclusion of the Council car park on Churchfield Road has allowed us to revise our proposals for The Oaks. This is an exciting opportunity to use the redevelopment of The Oaks to support the wider regeneration of Acton. As well as making The Oaks a shopping destination, the inclusion of homes means we can create an active and vibrant town centre community. The proposals are designed to respect and complement the existing neighbourhood, and enhance residents’ access to open spaces and create better pedestrian links to the The Oaks”. Prior to being submitted to Ealing Council, the proposals will be on show in The Oaks Shopping Centre on Friday 20th April (11am-4pm) and Saturday 21st April (11am-3pm) where the team will be on hand to answer questions. Comments will be collected until 4th May 2012.
