You will get your chance to take a look at the new primary school planned for Acton next week.

The school will be built on the site of the former Acton Priory School, Acton Lane, which has been used in recent years as Priory community centre. It is scheduled to open in 2013, subject to planning permission.

ARK Schools, an academy sponsor that already run several schools in London, will run the new primary. It will be housed in a brand new building specially designed to make the most of the limited space on the site.

The new primary will admit 60 children every year until it reaches its capacity of 450 students in 2019. Acton is currently experiencing a massive increase in demand for primary places so the new school will mean that more local children will be offered a school place close to home.

Two information sessions are planned so that members of the public can view the designs for the school, formally submit their comments and suggestions and discuss the plans with council officers.

The sessions will be held at Acton Library, King Street, W3 6NA on the following dates:

- Wednesday 28 March, 5.30pm – 7.30pm
- Thursday 29 March, 1.30pm – 3.30pm

David Archibald, Executive Director, Children and Adults, said: “I know that many local families will be pleased to hear that our plans for the new primary school are progressing. There is a real squeeze on places in this area and the establishment of this new school will be a relief to parents of young children living close by.

“I hope that local people will take the time to come along and see the plans for themselves. This is going to be their local school and we want to know what they think.”
