A South Acton-based dumpling manufacturer has been ordered to pay £78,000 after admitting more than 20 food safety offences. Limasole Ltd, which trades as Hong’s Dumplings and supplies frozen dumplings and gyozas to Asian supermarkets and restaurants, was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on Monday 2 February.

The company and its director, Zhuo Yu “Sharon” Zhao of Baronsmede, Ealing, pleaded guilty to 20 breaches of the Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations 2013. Limasole Ltd was fined £45,000 and must also pay a £2,000 victim surcharge and £17,000 in costs. Zhao was fined £8,000, with a further £2,000 surcharge and £4,000 in costs.

The case followed inspections by Ealing Council’s food safety team at the company’s Colville Road factory in March and June 2024. Officers found food being produced in conditions that exposed it to contamination, including construction dust, flaking paint above the production line, dirty or damaged equipment and a rodent bait box placed on a work surface.

A Remedial Action Notice was issued in March 2024, prohibiting use of the dumpling production room until improvements were made. Although the notice was lifted the following month, an unannounced inspection in June found hygiene standards had deteriorated again. Officers discovered a dirty and mouldy conveyor belt, food production taking place next to construction works and no hot water available for handwashing or sterilising equipment. A second Remedial Action Notice was issued, halting production immediately.

The council later established that the company continued producing and selling food during the period when its operations were legally suspended.

Councillor Kamaljit Nagpal, cabinet member for decent living incomes, said the case demonstrated the importance of maintaining legal hygiene standards. She added that while the council supports businesses that need help improving, it will “act quickly and decisively against the minority of irresponsible businesses that ignore the rules and put the public at risk.”

Ealing Council’s food safety team continues to carry out unannounced inspections across the borough and has powers to issue notices, seize food or bring prosecutions where necessary.
