New leisure centre proving popular before its even opened
Acton's new leisure centre has attracted 1,000 members before its even opened its doors. Everyone Active Acton Centre, which will open on Saturday 5 April, has exceeded expectations of membership presales. The centre has also had an additional 2700 local people apply for their free Everyone Active Card, which enables them to access facilities on a pay as you go basis. One lucky man walked away with free membership worth over £450. Max Walton O’Brien, 19, was delighted when informed he was the lucky number 1000. He said: “I signed up for an Everyone Active membership as I’d heard the new facilities were going to be fantastic and the membership rates were really reasonable - as a student it’s important to watch the pennies. “When I found out I was the 1000th member and would receive my membership completely free I was over the moon. All my friends have now joined and we are excited to get started in April.” The £19 million project began in December 2012 and will result in a brand new 100-station gym, 25m x eight lane swimming pool and two dance studios. To celebrate the completion of the redevelopment, Everyone Active is hosting a free open day for the local community on April 5th. The day will be hosted by Olympic swimmer and sports presenter Steve Parry and a number of team GB swimmers will be in attendance including Fran Leighton, Adam Scholefield, Katie Dawkins, Vicki Lucas and six-time world champion swimmer Mark Foster. The athletes’ will be signing autographs and taking part in a range of activities to encourage the local community to join in and try something new. Everyone Active Area Membership Manager Frankie Armstrong says: “The facilities at Everyone Active Acton Centre are very high spec, so we’ve had a lot of interest and support from the local community. “We hope the local community will take the chance to try some of the amazing new facilities on offer on 5th April and hope many will be encouraged to take up some new active hobbies.” Founder memberships are available until April 5 at a reduced rate of £35 per month for life
