High schools across Ealing are celebrating a record result in the number of students achieving five or more good grades at GCSE, including English and mathematics.

Provisional figures released today, show that 60 per cent of the borough’s students secured five or more A*-C grades, a rise of nearly 5 per cent on last year’s results and the best ever recorded for Ealing schools.

Several schools have posted double-digit increases, including Greenford High School which achieved an 18 per cent rise on last year’s results, Acton High School which gained a 14 per cent rise and Villiers and Dormers Wells high schools which both improved by 11 per cent.

Results in the individual core subjects of English, mathematics and science have also increased significantly across the borough and are well above the national average.

Councillor Patricia Walker, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “I congratulate all the young people who received their GCSE results yesterday.

“I am delighted that more Ealing students than ever have achieved the qualifications they need to set them on the path to further study and work. They should take pride in their achievements.

“I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of everyone who has contributed to this success. I know how hard school staff and parents have worked to support our students and these results confirm the high standard of education on offer in Ealing schools.”
