|Free Parking For Christmas Shopping|
December and first weekend in January
Ealing Council plans to offer free weekend parking at car parks throughout December and during the first weekend of January.
The offer runs at all council car parks (except Perivale Station). It will allow people to shop, eat and drink locally on weekends throughout the Christmas period without paying a penny for parking. The free parking starts on Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 December.
The deal will support the first ever Small Business Saturday on 7 December. Small Business Saturday is a nationwide event designed to encourage people to shop locally and support independent shops and businesses. For more information on Small Business Saturday, go to www.fsb.org.uk.
The first weekend of free parking also coincides with the annual Acton Christmas Fair on Saturday, 7 December.
As well as being a great place to buy Christmas gifts and treats, the event will also feature entertainment and a visit from Santa. The fair takes place in Acton Town Centre from 11am - 4pm.
Leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Julian Bell, said: “Residents tell me that they want to have busy and vibrant local shopping areas, but if we want to keep shops on our high streets, we have to use them. Businesses have told us that when free weekend parking has made a big difference when we have offered it in the past, so I hope that many residents will take advantage of it again.”
Cllr David Millican, Conservative Group Leader said:
“I am delighted that the Council will be offering free parking throughout December. This will be a boost for our local shops and comes at a time when the Government is promoting the UK’s first Small Business Saturday on 7 December.''
The following car parks will be free on Saturdays and Sundays in December, and during the first weekend in January:
Dean Gardens, Leeland Terrace
Greenford Broadway, Oldfield Lane South
The proposal will be officially considered at Ealing Council’s cabinet on Tuesday, 26 November.
