Ealing Council is inviting young residents to take part in a volunteering scheme to help them on the way to getting a job.

The council is looking for 15 young people, to work with its Children’s Services as part of a year long work placement on the ‘vtalent’ programme.

Anyone living or educated in Ealing who is aged 16-25 on 1 April 2010, is being encouraged to attend a recruitment day on Thursday 18 February, at Ealing Connexions One Stop Shop, The Mall, from 12-3pm. There is another recruitment day on Friday 19 February at Northolt Library from 12-2pm.

Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Ian Gibb, said: “Lots of young people find it hard to get the experience many jobs require so this is an opportunity that is too good to be missed. We launched the scheme last year and had some great feedback. It was a very popular programme and many of our volunteers are now in full-time education or employment.”

The volunteers will work towards an NVQ qualification and be paid a weekly allowance of up to £100. A mentor will also support them during their placement. Additionally, all volunteers will be given the support they need to move into further education or employment, and will be able to access a £1,500 personal development grant to help with the costs of further education or training when they successfully complete the programme.

The vtalent scheme is run by independent charity, v.
