Police are appealing for witnesses after a child was critically injured in a collision in on the A4.

They were called at 14:18 on yesterday (Sunday 23rd September) after reports that a black Ford Explorer had been in collision with a girl at Gillette Corner - Great West Rd [A4] near the junction with Syon Lane.

It is understood the car - on the westbound track - hit the girl as she crossed the Great West Road with her mother.

The 8-yr-old, who lives locally, suffered a head injury and was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, and was later transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital - her condition is critical.

The driver of the car did stop at the scene.

The A4 westbound towards Heathrow was shut for a time but re-opened at 18.15.

Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit based at Hampton are investigating the circumstances of the collision. Any witnesses are asked to call Sgt Pete Mosdell on 020 8941 9011
