The next concert in the Iris Axon Concert series takes place on Sunday 4 December at Acton Hill Church and will be given by young Cypriot pianist Stavroula Thoma.

She has performed across Europe since her concert debut in 2014 and has been a Concordia Foundation Piano Artist since 2016 for which she performed solo recitals at St James' Piccadilly Church and Macmillan Cancer centre in London.

Organiser Jane Schopf says, “The pieces she has chosen will transport you to exotic places with their myriad of styles and bring the warmth of southern sunshine to our Sunday afternoon.”

The programme is as follows:

J. S. Bach. ‘French Suite’, No. 5
M. Ravel. Valses Nobles et Sentimentales
I. Albeniz. Suite Espanole, Op.47 (Selection)

Programmes at the door (Cash) £5.00 concessions, £6.00 adults, £2.00 children

The concerts take place at 4pm on the first Sunday of each month at the venue which is on the corner of the High Street and Woodlands Avenue (W3 9BU).

Now in its twelfth year, the Iris Axon Concert Series is an annual season of short (60-70 minute) monthly recitals on Sunday afternoons at the Acton Hill Church. The series was started by Music Director Jane Schopf in 2004 to provide a venue for young musicians starting on their professional careers, many of whom have subsequently enjoyed international success in competitions and on the concert platform. The series has continued to grow and now attracts established international artists as well.

Originally called the Acton Classical Music Concert Series, it was re-named in 2009 in memory of one of its most loyal supporters, Iris Axon, who made possible the purchase of a concert grand, handmade by Clive Pinkham.

The church is deemed ideal for concerts as it has the largest unsupported wooden barrel-vault ceiling in London which brings out the middle harmonics, creating a luxuriously warm sound.
