Join in as archaeologists are carry out trial excavations

Local people are being given a chance to get involved in the archaeological work that is taking place at Gunnersbury Park, as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) bid to restore and conserve the rich heritage of the park.

Archaeologist are surveying and doing trial archaeological excavations over the coming weeks and are inviting the public to have a go at digging.

Two public events are programmed for August, exploring different areas of the archaeologist’s work. The first reveals the technology they use to survey the site’s heritage: from its impressive historic buildings to the archaeology buried beneath the ground. The second day is an opportunity for visitors to see and even take part in an archaeological excavation.

Geophysics in the Park

Find out how and why archaeologists use geophysical survey technology in their work at Gunnersbury Park. Meet the team, see the work in progress and discover more about the buried heritage of the Park.

Dig in the Park

Meet the archaeologists and find out what they have discovered below ground. There is also the opportunity to help dig one of the archaeological trenches and wash the finds that are found.
