Following Sunday's meeting, residents of Shakespeare Road and other nearby roads in Poet's Corner are organising a solid campaign to oppose the development of the old Conservative Club at 89-91 Shakespeare Road, W3.

Ealing and Acton Central MP Angie Bray released a statement this week which read:

“Today (10th January 2011) is the first time I heard anything about this issue. The sale of the property, handled by a holding company on behalf of the Ealing and Acton Conservative Association, is not something I have any legal control over, and indeed it has never been part of any discussion I have ever had with officers of the association. However, I am aware of the problem now, and I am trying to find out what is going on. What I do know, is that the consultation period was organised over the holiday period and it seems to me to be far too short. I will certainly be urging a longer period for residents to be able to express their views on this important matter.” has contacted the Ealing Council Planning Office for a statement about resident's concerns that the application process is being rushed through, but has not yet received a reply.

Some residents have told us that they did not receive a letter from the Council informing them of the planning application, nor did they see public signs erected on lampposts nearby the development.

Local Councillors are believed to be involved in opposing the planning application as well, and met last night to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, a Facebook page has been setup for residents to keep up to date with the campaign to save the building. And of course, the Forum is alive with comment on the topic.
