Firefighters rescued six adults and three children after a fire broke out at a cafe and flats in The Vale, Acton during the early hours of this morning (22 September).

A family of two adults and three children were rescued from a third floor flat above the More Munchies cafe by crews wearing breathing apparatus. All five were treated for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.

Another three adults from a flat on the second floor and one adult from a first floor flat were also led to safety by firefighters down an internal staircase.

One person left the building before the Brigade arrived and six people were evacuated from neighbouring premises.

Part of the ground floor restaurant was damaged by the fire.

Watch manager Louise De Silvo, who was at the scene, said: “The fire was difficult to locate and our crews faced difficult conditions. Firefighters worked exceptionally hard and prevented the fire from spreading to the flats above the restaurant so we were able to safely evacuate residents.”

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers from Acton, Hammersmith, Chiswick, Ealing and Kensington fire stations were called to the scene. The Brigade was called at 1.28an and the fire was under control at 5.14am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
