A plaque is to be placed on the house on Churchfield Road in which artist Eric Ravilious was born.

An unveiling ceremony for the plaque was held this month with his daughter Ann in attendance along with members of her family. Also present were members of the Acton History group, the Ealing Civic Society group and Ealing Mayor Patricia Walker.

The event was held at L’Orientale Restaurant at 94 Churchfield Road which is next door to the place of his birth at 96 (now the Mystery of Beauty salon).

Eric Ravilious was born in on 22 July 1903 and became a noted painter, designer, book illustrator and wood engraver. His father was Frank Ravilious who had a cabinet maker's and upholsterer's shop on Churchfield Road. There was also a hat and hosiery store owned by a member of their family on the same road.

He was an official war artist in World War II and received a commission as a Captain in the Royal Marines. He died on active service in 1942 when a plane he was in was lost off the coast of Iceland.

The plaque will be fixed to the wall of 96 Churchfield Road in the coming weeks. He is already commemorated by blue plaques in Weltje Road Hammersmith and Eastbourne.
