The East Acton Safer Neighbourhoods police team had been receiving a number of complaints from residents in the Acton Park area. They reported that people had been sleeping rough in the wildlife reserve area of the park and leaving a huge amount of litter behind.

The Team contacted the Council run Park Guard and discovered that the gates to the park were not locked at night. This has been rectified and the team plan to trial joint patrols with Park Guard in order to increase the park’s security.

However they have also been giving positive help to the homeless in the area. East Acton’s Sergeant PS Gil Levy and Dedicated Ward PCSO Sandy Cummings came across a destitute and homeless man while out on one of their regular patrols. He was in quite a state, and the two
officers asked if there was any practical assistance they could offer.

The man half-jokingly replied that he was in dire need of a new pair of shoes and socks. The officers decided they would dip into their own pockets and bought him some new trainers and socks. Unfortunately they then couldn’t find him and spent the next few days looking for him. Eventually they tracked him down and the man was very grateful and quite taken aback.

The East Acton team's contact number is 020 8721 2708 but always use 999 if you need to report an emergency.
