After a pensioner died on Monday night at Acton Town Hall, the incident has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive.

The pensioner, Suchfield Johnston, was attending a wake after a friend's funeral on Monday evening. He fell from a Town Hall balcony around 8-10 feet and was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. He died on Wednesday evening after the decision was taken to switch off his life support machine.

He lived locally with his partner, Christine Antoine, in Birkbeck Court sheltered housing unit. Mr Johnston, aged 76, was a father of one.

There were around 400 people at the function in Acton Town Hall. Police sealed off Acton High Street for two hours after the accident causing major disruption to traffic. The Police say there were no suspicious circumstances and that it is standard procedure for such an incident to be reported to the Health and Safety Executive.
