Reports are coming in this Thursday afternoon (15 March) of a heavy police presence and loud explosion heard from Acton Park.

Councillor Gary Malcolm who is in the area says police have sealed off the park and a short time ago he heard what he describes as a very loud explosion.

He says parents going to collect children from a nearby school were told the park was closed.

Reports on twitter suggest that an unexploded device may have been found by builders working on The Oaks development.

Police say, ''Police were called at 14:41hrs on Thursday, 15 March following the discovery of a suspected grenade at a construction site in High Street, Acton W3. Officers, including specialist officers, have been called to the scene.

'' A nearby shopping centre was evacuated as a precaution, and nearby roads were closed with a cordon now in place.

'' The grenade was assessed and then moved to safe location n nearby, and a controlled explosion was carried out at around 16:35hrs.''

The incident has now been stood down.
