The council is seeking to reassure residents that Acton market is safe.

It follows concerns about proposals for the future of the site after traders heard that the Council, the current licence holders, will be putting it out to tender.

The market is currently run by Action Acton a regeneration charity and voluntary body and is held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays but it's feared that a new contractor will hike rental prices, forcing the traders out.

There have also been fears that the council were planning to sell off the land to developers.

A council spokesperson has told Actonw3.com:

"We are currently in discussions with both traders and Action Acton who run Acton Market about ways to improve the quality and range of the market.

"The council is committed to the continuation of Acton Market and has no plans to either sell it or to close it."
