After the recent launch of the Wilko store in Acton’s new Oaks Shopping centre there have been more openings.

Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq joined crowds of local shoppers last week at a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Superdrug is the latest shop to open in the new Oaks outlet, joining popular stores such as Iceland and Wilko, as well as others to follow although not necessarily Marks and Spencers as we originally stated. Rupa Huq has been following developments closely and was delighted to attend the opening of the new store.

There are hopes that the much-anticipated Oaks shopping centre will help regenerate Acton’s high street which has seen a number of significant business closures over the last few years.

Dr Huq said, “All we need now is the return of a Post Office in central Acton.”

Sonia Carbon, Store Manager for Oaks Centre Superdrug, said: “It was a pleasure to have Rupa Huq MP there to support the opening. We look forward to welcoming many shoppers through the door over the coming weeks.”

Huq commented: “While other MP colleagues lament the closure of stores in their seats, I’m delighted that in the past week major openings have taken place in Ealing AND Acton; both sides of my constituency. Ealing and Acton increasingly boast some of the best high street shops in west London and it’s great to see new investment in the constituency.”

Rupa added: “These openings are great news for local shoppers, but we need to ensure we have long-term policies in place to revive Britain’s struggling high streets across the country. Labour is committed to ensuring our thriving high streets don’t become ghost streets.”

Meanwhile up the road in Ealing Broadway, Decathlon opened its doors with a staff team of 25. Huq joined Abdullah Gulaid, the Mayor of Ealing, at the opening ceremony. They were given a tour of the new store and took part in some sporting activities, supported by the local sports community as part of the opening.
