Henry Weir, GB hockey Olympian has represented team GB at the Rio Olympics, was one of around 250 National Lottery funded athletes attending a parkrun event between 18 August and 9 September as part of #teamparkrun, an initiative that invites Britain’s top athletes to volunteer as Tail Walkers at parkruns and junior parkruns across the country.

Each of parkrun’s 800 events across the UK have volunteer Tail Walkers who provide support and encouragement for people who choose to walk the event, as well as ensuring that nobody finishes last at a parkrun.

Clare Walker, Event Director at Acton juniors, said: “The most common reason for people not getting involved in either the 5k or 2k parkruns is that they don’t feel it’s for them or they are not capable of running the distance, so #teamparkrun provides a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how inclusive parkruns are and how warmly we welcome everyone. I would encourage anyone to come along to our event and see for themselves - walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply watch. parkrun is a socially-focussed event that is all about encouraging the local community to get out in the fresh air and to enjoy our open spaces.”

parkrun registration is free at www.parkrun.org.uk/register

Acton junior parkrun is open to 4-14 year-olds and their families and takes place at 9:00am every Sunday in Acton Park (by the playground) and welcomes children and their families to take part whether they wish to run, walk or volunteer.
