Acton Fire Station will be throwing its doors open on Saturday - one of 56 special open days to celebrate the 150th anniversary of London Fire Brigade.

Budding young firefighters will have the opportunity to try on fire gear, sit in a fire engine and even squirt water from a hose reel.

Crew members will carry out rescue drills and demonstrate cutting equipment. Vintage appliances will be parked alongside modern engines.

The open day will be attended by the Met Police Safer Neighbourhoods Team, police dog handlers and a team will be on hand to offer security marking for bicycles.

A petting zoo, steel band, fairground rides, face painting and a photobooth will be set up in the fire station’s yard.

The anniversary open days will be a perfect day out for anyone who’s ever fancied playing firefighter for a day, taking place across London from April through to December. Children big and small can meet real firefighters and life-sized PLAYMOBIL ones, plus enjoy toys and activities galore.

Limited-edition London Fire Brigade versions of popular PLAYMOBIL Fire Brigade sets have also been created for little ones to learn through play at home. Ten per cent of proceeds will be donated to the Brigade’s charities of choice, with toys available from April to purchase at the open days and from Playmobil customer services.

People will also have the chance to look around the station and check out the equipment used by Brigade firefighters.
