Significant traffic issues are expected for much of the rest of the year due to the planned closure of one lane of the A40 (Western Avenue).

The westbound stretch between Wood Lane in Shepherd’s Bush and Acton also known as the Westway is to be reduced from three lanes to two from 8 April with the closure expected to be in place until late in the year.

The closure is needed due to construction on the Acton to Wood Lane cycleway. The scheme will provide 3.5km of shared use and cycle track at footway level on the southern side of the A40/Western Avenue.

The lane will be shut 24 hours a day during works, and the speed limit near works will be reduced from 40 mph to 30 mph for safety reasons.

Delays westbound on the A40 are anticipated particularly during the evening rush hour during the weekend and motorists are advised to travel at different times or use alternative sources of transport for local trips.
