Local children join an Excel Club and learn about Black History
Descendants, a local charity based in Acton for 30 years, is continuing a series of weekly sessions at the Acton Garden Community centre in September consisting of history sessions, arts & crafts, homework support and mentoring sessions. The cost is £2 per session which includes reading and writing support, STEM, arts and crafts and mentoring. The group aims to empower and educate local children through affordable creative and educational sessions. From Wednesday 7 September at Acton Gardens Community Centre, the Descendants Excel Club will provide stretch and support sessions for children aged 4-16, hosted by qualified and experienced teachers, mentors and instructors. The classes run from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and continue until 14 December and you can sign up online. Starting on Friday 9 September, also at the Acton Gardens Community Centre, Our Heroes Project, Who Inspires Me? will explore some of the most inspirational figures throughout Black history and our society today. These sessions cost £2 and take place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and continue until 16 December during term time. RSVP if you would like to take part.
